These paintings are currently featured, through March 15th, in the Water Is Life environmental art exhibit at Gary's Rock Shop, my nature shop in Viroqua, WI. I created these pieces in gratitude to the "protectors" at Standing Rock for their efforts to ensure safe water for the earth and future generations.

In "Tears For The Earth", not only do the tears symbolize purity, water, rain, and an expression of painful emotions surrounding the current issues at Standing Rock, but the tears also emphasize a call for sensitivity and tenderness in how we steward the land and waters. Tears are an integral part of the healing process, and these tears paired with the butterflies are a symbol of hope and healing for the earth.

In "Healing Spirit", again the message is one of hope and healing. All of my artwork has an underlying environmental focus paired with symbolic imagery.
That's way beyond the melting point of .925 sterling silver and potentially damaging to the equipment.

In return for my distraction, the kiln regurgitated 3 silver pebbles.

Not what I was envisioning when I began my work on these three pieces, but beautiful, nevertheless, in their raw, more authentic form. I found myself shocked at my lack of regret and in fact, the only feeling I could muster as I ran the pebbles through my fingers this morning, was a vague disappointment in spending so much time and effort fabricating the sheet silver into custom bezels and meticulously forming the pre-fire metal into what would have been elegant lotus blossom and maple seed designs...designs that admittedly, can be recreated, when I am ready to do so.

The melting point of sterling silver is 1650 degrees Fahrenheit, and my own personal melting point I've discovered is at about the same temperature. I've always prided myself on being able to “hold it together”. However, these past few years and ballooning within the past few months, I have had a series of experiences all rolled into a very minute time-frame, that I felt a heat beyond my personal melting point...a heat potentially damaging to my equipment. It's effect on me can only be described as a “melt down". And again, surprisingly, I have no regrets save a fleeting disappointment when I reflect on time and effort.

I have emerged a raw silver pebble. I am starting over. I am raw. I am authentic. I have been melted down into my original form...a perfectly imperfect silver pebble.
Garden Goddess pictured at left is an interpretation of Mother Earth. The buddha-like goddess sits in her garden. She nurtures and tends to the earth.
Red Jasper is known as an "earth stone" and "supreme nurturer". It is a healing stone and known for it's earthy grounding energy.

The leaf design pictured at right combines the nurturing energy of red jasper with the symbolism of the oak.

Trees have long been a symbol of earth connection as their roots reach deep within the earth seeking nourishment. Just as the mighty oak draws strength from the earth, we too, should take the time to walk barefoot upon the ground beneath us, and draw strength from the energy that rises from "Within".

My Tribal Dancers Design Necklace features pipestone handcarved by Mokasiya. Only a handful of designs are being created with this earthy and grounding stone which can bring spiritual routine into your life.

The symbolic dancing figures are mirrored on either side of the large one of a kind pipestone (catlinite) stone. The dancers are symbolic of joie d'vivre or ''joy of life'' with spiral, swirling detailing.

The overall shape at a distance looks like a spider which is symbolic of creation and creativity. The Hopi Native American's myth is that of a spider woman as the creator of the world and as such, this pendant takes on the symbolism of this spider-goddess, Mother Earth.

Origins; Birthing Beauty has a creation and Mother Earth theme. This placid mother gives birth to the orchid flower in full bloom. The sphere symbolizes the earth while the orchid is beauty and miracle.

The child figures symbolize the human race, nurtured by the mother who has given them life. This goddess painting is full of blooming life, expression and beauty.
The Color Green
Green is the color associated with the new growth of spring.

Green Goddess is my charcoal & pastel painting with simplified leafy vining lines silhouetting a female form. This Green Goddess embodies new life, green living, and spring growth and renewal.
Green Stones: Peridot

Peridot is bright yellow-green gemstone with a warm and friendly energy. It is cleansing and stimulating to the heart and solar plexus chakras. Peridot helps to regulate one's cycles: physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and life cycles. It is a strengthening and regenerating tonic for the body.

My maple seed "wing" design is inspired by the flight and life-force of the maple seed. From it's first flight, the maple seed finds it's perfect place in the world to live and grow. Spread your wings and do the same.

Green Stones: Aventurine
Aventurine is a variety of quartz or feldspar which embodies the "pioneering" spirit, encouraging an adventurous lifestyle or attitude. Aventurine enhances creativity while balancing the intellectual, emotional, physical, and auric bodies.

Butterfly Symbolism
Butterflies are a fluttery spring symbol of transformation. Their association with purity and innocence is indicative of "spring cleaning" and cleansing for the body and chakras, especially the upper chakras and states of enlightenment.

Rainbows & Opal Symbolism
Rainbows are associated with spring rains and the optimism of a fresh new perspective.

Opals are imbued with the power of the rainbow! Throughout history they have been thought to represent luck, success, happiness and imagination.

The Creative Juices are flowing as I work on
finishing my latest painting. This piece is a phoenix theme in an 18 x 24
format. The Phoenix is the mythological fire bird and as a fire-sign myself, it became inevitable that the Phoenix would find her way into my work.

The Phoenix appears in Persian, Iranian, Lebanese, Russian and Greek mythology, but is most associated with Chinese cosmology as an emblem of their empress. The phoenix is an enormous winged bird that dwells immortally in the highest regions of heaven, visiting us on our plane of existence to forecast great events. She is a symbol of Fire, Divinity, and Immortality.

This piece calls for a little more "fire" and then the finishing work to bring
it to life, but I thought I would share this one in it's incomplete state of raw
beauty in line and color. My impromptu photography does not do this piece justice in regard to the depth of color, but here it is, never-the-less.

The large asymmetrical heart symbol is indicative of my Open Heart series of paintings which explore the intelligence of the heart. Through the depth of our experience, we become more colorful and vibrant.
On my recent trip to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, I took advantage of the opportunity to visit the San Diego Bay only a short 400 miles away. My beau and I flew in and out of San Diego and road-tripped out to the show and back. What a fabulous trip including my first time on a sailboat, yikes! As you can see by the sheer contentment clearly written in my smile, I took to it like, well, a fish takes to water.

The best part of the entire trip, besides the glistening gems at the show, of course, was the glistening ocean view and sunny San Diego weather - a duo sure to inspire blue-green reflections of ocean life!

STAR FISH
The little green gems in this starfish design ring are aventurine, a gemstone you'll want on your next journey. As the name suggests, it is a stone of "adventure". It is known to bestow it's wearer with qualities of independence, perseverance, and leadership.

The starfish is a symbol of many things, the main one being a star from the sky which fell into the sea. In this way, the starfish is a totem for hopes and dreams.

The starfish also has feminine energy, as it represents the Virgin Mary.

It is a celestial symbol, representing divine love.

Other symbolic meanings of these intriguing five fingered "sea stars" include guidance and inspiration, brilliance and intuition.

DOLPHINS
Of course, no design book of "inspiration by sea" would be complete without the dolphin, a prevalent symbol in my work and important symbol for our world.

I believe the dolphin is a very important creature from which we can learn many life-lessons.

They are an important symbol for world-peace, creating interspecies bonding/communication, fostering understanding.

The dolphin is a symbol of optimism, community and communication. It is also playfully symbolic of a free-spirited nature, as well as gentleness and graciousness.

Both lunar and solar symbolism are represented by this pure-hearted symbol.

The Caribbean blue stone featured in the pendant above is Larimar, found in the Dominican Republic. It is associated with the Throat chakra, aiding in communication.

Larimar is also known to be born of volcanic activity, and is therefore, thought to balance and soothe the emotions. It is also thought to teach respect, love, and nurturing...appropriately paired with the loving symbolism of the dolphin.

My dolphin ring designs at left feature grey moonstone and blue/green labradorite. Both stones are known for their surface sheen and mystical qualities.

Moonstone is symbolic of the moon and divine feminine, whereas, Labradorite is known to contain solar and lunar energy as a "stone of destiny".

My destiny has followed a curvy road and has led me to share the stones and symbols that aid me in my journey. Where will destiny lead you, and what symbols will show you way?
This year, I packed my bags and said a temporary "goodbye" to the polar vortex and sub-zero temps in Wisconsin. In search of unique and special gemstones for my jewelry designs, I found myself trekking to Arizona and the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.

Heavenly Blue Azurite is native to Arizona and you'll find very large boulders to very small micro-specimens available at the show. Azurite is often found with malachite and these specimens can be stunning in jewelry. Watch for azurite and malachite featured in new and upcoming jewelry designs.

The purple amethyst and yellow citrine cathedrals were spectacular. There were many show-stopping pieces in heights that could easily reach twice my size. However, I felt I was lucky to find some beautiful micro-clusters for my designing pleasure!

You'll see the serene and peaceful energy from the amethyst cathedral pictured was so calming I couldn't even keep my eyes open! Amethyst is a stone of peace and spirituality, while citrine has a clearing effect and uplifting energy.

I was happy to find the druzy amethyst specimens to pair with my wing, butterfly, and dolphin designs, while the citrine is still awaiting my imagination.
Being blessed by Kwan Yin, goddess of compassion, was an added bonus of the Tucson show. Where else can you hang out with the Buddha, Kwan Yin and various other gods, goddesses, gargoyles, and religious figures on a sunny February afternoon?

Speaking of the divine, another find was Herkimer Diamonds. Many of the beauties below were chosen as twin-crystals, meaning they each feature two crystals attached together and many have inclusions and special quartz features (keys, windows, etc).

They are a quartz crystal native to Herkimer, NY (hence, the name), which are known for their psuedo-diamond clarity and double terminated formation (meaning they have a point at each end of the crystal).

I am still contemplating how to design around these powerful little crystals, but you can expect to see the new Herkimer Collection emerge in the Spring!

Herkimer Quartz have a harmonious and spontaneous energy. It can stimulate clairvoyant and clairaudient abilities as well as telepathic communication.

Another divine gemstone is Moldavite, which is really from out-of-this-world. It is a glass meteorite or "tektite" which fell in Czechoslavakia, millions of years ago. This transparent gem is the rarest variety of tektite and the only gem-quality stone of extra-terrestrial origin.

The designs I am planning for the moldavite collection include hawk totems, wings, and goddesses, however, the stones speak for themselves sometimes during the design process and so many new ideas will emerge as I begin work! Watch for the Moldavite Collection to emerge within the next few weeks and into the spring.

I am also expanding my opal design collection and you can expect to see more ring designs featuring one-of-a-kind Australian and now, Mexican opals too, thanks to the mexican opal dealers at the gem show!

Thanks to the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, my next few months in the studio will be busy and creative ones! I'm especially looking forward to working the one-of-a-kind raw materials into unique and spectacular designs. Give me a few weeks to a few months and watch as the new designs take shape!

With Valentines Day right around the corner, of course I begin to focus on the heart, common love stones, and the love symbols I typically use in my designs.

THE HEART

The heart shape finds it's way into many of my designs, whether intentional from the start or not. The cat pendant above, titled Beloved, simply began as the long graceful asymmetrical line of the sleeping cat silhouette. However, once I had the beautiful arching line of the rump, offsetting the foreground cat totem figure with the background heart shape became second-nature.

THE SPIRAL

In this Beloved cat necklace design, the tail indicates the spiral, another prevalent element in my work which symbolizes eternity or in this case, eternal love. The spiral is repeated in my handcrafted coil chain on which the pendant is hung.

THE COLOR RED

The red tiger eye above, appropriately paired with feline imagery, becomes a symbol itself for Love and the Heart. Red is the color of passionate love. It is the color associated with Cupid.

Another very popular red gemstone is Garnet. It is known as a stone of devotion. My ToeGem Toe Ring shown here features a red garnet gemstone set within a symbolic spiral of sterling silver.

Pink, the lighter shade of red, is a color very commonly associated with the emotion of romantic love. Along with the color green, it is associated with the chakra, or energy-center, located at the heart.

Rose Quartz is probably the most popular stone given on Valentine's Day. It is the stone of "gentle love" with soft heart-centered energy. My Butterfly Totem pendant at left features soft pink rose quartz.

Rhodochrosite, the soft pink and cream banded stone in the Flight of Love dove-design ring at left is considered a stone of love and some claim it can heal a broken heart.

PAIRED IMAGERY

Paired Imagery in my work, most often taking the form of birds or doves, is a symbol of soulmate love. Click here to read more about the symbolism of DOVES...

LOVERS

Lovers or coupled human imagery is also a prevalent theme in my work and symbolizes soulmates and eternal love. Here my Soulmates pendant is pictured in bronze. The design includes the male and female figures in a loving front-facing embrace, a shared heart-space, and a "halo" of the romantic moon set behind them.

THE COLOR GREEN

The color green is associated with the heart chakra, and the green stone most typically associated with this energy center is aventurine. It is a soft green feldspar and is known to aid in regeneration of the heart. Green Aventurine promotes compassion and empathy. The copper toe ring at left features a beautiful green aventurine stone and dark textural patterns.Winged Woman Art; The Stacie Anthony Collectionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11032508470493008747noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-331195079583271558.post-12718192293029295492014-01-20T15:55:00.000-08:002014-01-21T11:24:42.730-08:00Inspiration: Doves

Doves at my bird-feeders these past few snowy mornings have been inspiring more lovebird themed designs in the weeks leading up to Valentines Day. This morning they are hanging out in the small oak's branches...I've counted more than ten at a time. Look closely, how many can you spot in the photo above?

The dove is a graceful symbol of love and peace. Love-goddesses Aphrodite and Venus, are both associated with the dove. Doves are known to mate for life. They are a symbol of peace, loyalty, and an ancient symbol for the "soul". When you see a dove, she brings with her a message of hope.

Perhaps it is this message of hope that makes the dove such an important and prevalent symbol in my life and in my designs. I constantly seek out the qualities of the dove in my experiences and life journey.

My love bird design rings are shown in rainbow moonstone and peach moonstone. Moonstone has the feminine energy of the dove and also has that same quality of gentle love embodied by the graceful dove.

This design is a customer favorite for promise rings and engagement rings. As a symbol of promise and devotion, the dove is a beautiful choice to wear as a symbol of friendship and matrimonial promise. Other stone choices are available, limited only by one's imagination and stone availability!

Blue Kyanite is paired with Dove symbolism in the necklace and pendant designs below.

To see more of my Kyanite jewelry designs, click here.

Blue Kyanite is known as a stone of psychic awareness and connection to angels and spirit guides. The dove is a symbol of ascension and heavenly "visitation". It is a symbol of angelic communication. What better symbol of love than that of the divine?

Yes, "it jumped down my throat" or at least that's what the doctor was told by this wide-eyed blond hobbit. Actually, I was 5 years old at the time and polishing up the pretty piece of copper in my juicy little mouth. What comes next is no big surprise: I accidentally swallowed it and Mom rushed me over to the clinic where they showed me x-rays of the coin en route through my digestive system.

An interesting start to my career as a jeweler.

Fast forward thirty-some years and you'll still find me contentedly polishing away on my metals; However, I have given up the spit-polish method for a less toxic (and yucky) studio practice.

While I did finally learn that dear lesson to keep my work away from my mouth, I remain intimately connected to each piece created in my studio. My hands touch, shape, hammer, grind, sand and polish each and every ring or toe ring, pendant, chain link, or bracelet.

I form and fabricate the raw metal with my hands. There is no shipment of pre-fab forms, no big machine stamping out the metal or throwing out cast pieces.

Each piece is created one at a time and my fingerprint is on every moment of that item's creation...and my biggest thrill, every time, is during the final polish when watching the design emerge from manipulated metal into shiny treasure!

The garnet family contains more than 10 different gems in various colors. Red garnets are the most common and "pyrope", the only garnet that is always a shade of red, is the most popular in jewelry.

Pyrope Garnets have been found in Bohemia, Czech Republic, and the Kimberley Region of South Africa. Other sources include Russia, Germany, central Burma, and North America (New Mexico and Wyoming).

Most pyrope comes from igneous rock in various proportions of almondine-pyrope mixes, also referred to as rhodolite garnet. It's meaning comes from the Greek word "pyropos" which means fiery-eyed.

This fiery red stone is the warm color of passion, power, and energy, and is the stone known as the January birthstone.

Oak Leaf and Maple Seed imagery pair the red garnet with tree symbolism in the rings at left. Tree imagery symbolizes strength and grounding, well paired with the properties of garnet.

Garnets form under high temperatures and pressure, and perhaps this is what gives them their fiery reputation. It is a stone of passion and courage. It is also a stone of devotion.

Garnet resonates with the root chakra, as well as the crown chakra, soothing and healing to the physical and emotional body. It is grounding and protecting, yet energizing and spiritual.

Textured copper paired with faceted garnet in the pictured toe ring pairs the tribal with the elegant. Warm and earthy copper pairs well with garnet for powerful, grounded toes.

The most calming and peaceful stone of which I am aware, also happens to be one of the most known and sought-after gems: Amethyst. In beautiful shades of purple, it can surround you with a calming, peaceful energy. It has long been treasured by royalty from ancient Egypt to the British crown jewels. It is known to be a stone of spiritual protection and purification. It can help to calm thoughts, and can be an aid to meditation.

Doves are a classic symbol of peace and mother-comfort in historical and religious tradition including the Greeks, the Slavs, and the Christians.

Another embodiment of peace is the Lotus Blossom.

Lotus Blossom Necklace pictured here is paired with Seraphinite, a silvery green stone of angelic communication. It's beautiful green coloring is well-suited to the heart chakra, and resonates with all levels of the angelic domain. What better way to communicate peace this season, than with an open heart and voice of angels?

Paired with stones in calming shades of blue, aqua, and green, angel wings are a symbol of loving comfort and peace which you may find surrounding you this season.

Aqua aura quartz pictured in the first set of wings, is a calming and relaxing stone, known for it's connection to the spiritual. It can relieve stress, calm anger, and help one to attain inner peace.

The deep blue stone in this last set of wings is Kyanite. It is a spiritually charged stone which stimulates empathy and telepathy...both of which are qualities helpful in being able to understand and tolerate differences in the people we face each day.

Amber, bestowing a bright warm energy, may be just what you need during the dark, cold season of the year.

Amber is a beautiful golden yellow fossilized resin. It is known to have a "sunny and bright soothing energy which helps to enliven the disposition". Amber contains the energy of the sun and creates health, warmth, and wellbeing for the wearer, a helpful deterrent to depression that can result from the winter blahs.
This tree resin fossilized over millions of years. It has antiseptic properties which protected the trees from disease. Often found with well-preserved ancient insects, amber was sticky and would trap insects which tried to gnaw or burrow into the bark of the tree. Amber with these inclusions of insect and organic matter can be highly valuable to collectors and scientists alike. The value of amber is determined by the inclusions as well as clarity and color.

Amber is also thought to be helpful in manifesting prosperity and was valued in many cultures throughout history, even in prehistoric times. Amber artifacts from the Stone Age can be seen in museums, and in medieval times, amber was valued medicinally.

Amber is a vibrant material, increasing one's life force and helping the wearer to find inner freedom. Physically, it is just as dynamic, producing static electricity. In fact, the word electricity derives from the ancient Greeks, whose word for amber was "electron" or sun-made.

Because amber is a fossilized tree resin, many of my amber jewelry designs includes tree and leaf imagery. You can find more information about my tree and leaf jewelry designs here.
Paua Shell is a marine mollusk, part of the abalone shell family. It is a shell of beautiful shimmering rainbow colors including mainly blues, greens and sometimes pink and purple. These colors which symbolize nature have a calming effect when worn, and can enhance spirituality, peacefulness and balance in your day and in your environment. Paua Shell has been used in jewelry adornment for centuries and has been held sacred by many cultures.

Paua is a maori word, pronounced PAH WAH.

Paua shell resonates with the heart chakra, and as it is intimately connected to the sea, it represents the tides of emotion: an increased flow of feelings and an enhanced sensitivity toward others.

Symbolically, paua shell can instill a peaceful and stable atmosphere to one's environment. It brings cooperative energy to relationships, groups and families.

These qualities could be very helpful in interactions with your customers, coworkers, and employees, and even with the kids and your spouse.

Give Paua shell a try when you have a staff meeting or you just need more balance and peace in your day. It may not disarm the attitude of a discontented customer, but it may bring you more confidence and understanding in your interaction with that person.
Spec-tro-lite. It's the stone that is currently storming the fashion industry, and you should be in-the-know about it. So what's so special about Spectrolite and why is it the new trend?

Delve deeper into the stylin' world of gemstones...investigating gemstone choices and how their properties affect our daily lives.
Spectrolite, also commonly known as Labradorite, is a variety of feldspar, in the same mineral family as moonstone. This is pretty easy to believe once you get a peek at the intense "fire" haunting just below the surface. Like moonstone, spectrolite has that same iridescent play of color shimmering across the stone face caused by light refraction from internal fractures. However, unlike moonstone, which has pastel blue and pink color flashes in a milky transparent stone base, Spectrolite typically has a darker base, with bold intense blue, green, and orange flashes. This effect, known as labradorescence, is what gives this stone fame and customer appeal.

My jewelry choice is always a consideration when I go through my morning dressing routine. In addition, as a jeweler, my designs dictate my apparel choices when shopping. I wear jewelry as a statement of who I am and how I want to express myself. I also consider the physical properties (color, texture) as well as the metaphysical energy or healing properties in the stones I wear each day.

A statement piece of jewelry adds an element of sophistication, and spectrolite can be a useful companion through transformations and life changes, imparting confidence and inspiration.

We make personal and business impressions with the fashion of our clothes, and accessories we wear and carry with us. Every choice of style and color makes an impact on how we interact with the world around us.

Jewelry, with it's gemstones, carry intrinsic, hidden values and Spectrolite could be just what you need for that extra boost of confidence, enthusiasm, and inspiration in your work day.

The dark base tone (typically grey, to grey-green or transparent) symbolizes mystery as this stone is known to enhance intuition and psychic perception. In addition, the "labradorescence" adds magic and intrigue, stimulating imagination and inspiration.

As a "stone of transformation", you may gain new ideas for advancement in your career, business, and personal life. It is thought to banish fears and insecurities, imparting strength and perseverance.
The featured necklace is Mystic Dancers, a spiritual sterling silver necklace with symbolic dancing figures in sterling mirrored on either side of the large, flashy, and colorful labradorite stone. The dancers are inspired by Matisse's Joy of Life painting and symbolic of joie d'vivre or ''joy of life'' with spiral, swirling detailing. The overall shape at a distance looks like a spider which is symbolic of creativity. Approximately 1.5 inch length pendant is hung on handcrafted chain of sterling links interrupted with repetitive segments of beautiful, irregular-shaped labradorite beads.
Winged Woman Art is headed to Scottsdale, Arizona for their juried Artfest in November! An expected attendance of approx. 23,000 patrons should make this quite an exciting experience! I'm busy working away in the studio creating a multitude of new ring and toering designs, bracelets and anklets, pendants, necklaces...all kinds of new jewelry for men and women. Getting all geared up for the trip and looking forward to hitting the road again! Winged Woman Art; The Stacie Anthony Collectionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11032508470493008747noreply@blogger.com0
